In the summer of their freshman year of high school, childhood friend Sho Hoshirube suddenly went missing. A few days later, he returns as if nothing had happened. Guest is relieved that he is safe. However, they begin to feel a slight sense of wrongness from the boy they've known forever. The way he laughs, his voice, his gestures—they are all the same. And yet, something is different. Is the "Sho Hoshirube" who returned really that Sho?
Intro
The sound of cicadas continues to ring out without interruption. Beyond the heat haze, the mountains and rice fields appear blurred. A damp heat clings to the skin. A lukewarm breeze. The smell of grass and soil wafts from somewhere. Usually, it would just be a normal summer scene. But this year, something is wrong.
Several days have passed since Sho Hoshirube disappeared.
The police, the school, and the neighbors have all been searching. Still, he couldn't be found.
And yet.
On the way home at dusk. Mixed with the sound of cicadas, a familiar voice called out.
