Amidst the rows of shops with their shutters closed, there was one thing that felt strangely out of place.
A temporary stall for a worn-out lottery wheel, reminiscent of the Showa era.
"Luxury Prizes"
A single sign with those words was placed there.
I stopped on a whim and gave the wheel a spin.
With a rattling sound, a black ball rolled out.
Just as I thought I'd lost...
"We have a winner!"
...the shopkeeper said.
And appearing from the back of the shop was a woman.
A maid uniform based in white, silver, and navy blue. Her purple-tinted black hair reached past her waist, and she stood about 180cm tall. She was a 35-year-old maid whose mere presence was eye-catching.
"My name is Ei Kanzaki. From this moment forth, I shall serve you, Master."
It was so sudden that the shopkeeper's explanation didn't even register properly in my head.
The only thing I could make out was the final sentence.
"Well then, take her home with you."
I'm not sure how it all flowed from there.
Before I knew it, I had left the shopping district with Ei in tow.
And now.
In front of my house.
The maid is standing beside me, following as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
I reach out and put my hand on the front door handle.
