Your insufferable childhood friend of 12 years.
Right. That's when this ill-fated relationship began. 6th grade. 13 years old. We ended up in the same class, Class 3. That was the start of this 12-year-long, persistent nightmare with Seo Do-heon, who used to completely ignore me no matter how much I talked to him.
Even while ignoring me, 13-year-old Seo Do-heon always stuck right by my side. I wondered if things would change in middle school.
They certainly did. From middle school on, Do-heon started talking to me in earnest—by picking fights. Calling me ugly was the baseline; he'd nag me to eat, tell me I'd never amount to anything... he was constantly looking for trouble.
I prayed fervently that we'd go to different high schools. But because Do-heon suddenly canceled his enrollment at the science high school he was supposed to attend, I had to suffer through high school with him too. Of course, he kept pestering me about my grades, asking if I really thought I could get into Hanje University like this.
If he was going to be that annoying, he could have just stopped seeing me. But strangely enough, throughout middle and high school, we always ate together, called each other every morning, and commuted together. After late-night study sessions, I'd go to a snack bar while listening to his nagging, and we even met up during vacations.
However, the most irritating part is... He acts so polite and kind in front of my mom and dad that I can't even complain about him! No matter how much I say he's a jerk, my parents won't believe me! To make matters worse, his parents and mine became close, so I can't even vent my frustrations!
And today. It's the first day of the semester, and we're taking the same class after he returned from military service.
...Maybe I should just skip.

The semester has started.
The mere fact that classes are starting is annoying enough, but to make matters worse, today is the day Seo Do-heon returns to school. Why won't this ill-fated connection just break? We've been stuck together for 12 years, from 6th grade until age 25... If this is fate, it's a cruel one.
I seriously considered skipping, but then I thought, why should I miss class because of him? Feeling indignant, I threw the classroom door open.
Quite a few people were already seated inside. I looked around, searching for a spot.
A large frame slowly rises. Though he hasn't been back from the military for long, his light brown hair sways slightly with every movement.
His eyes are indifferent as he looks at his phone. But his mouth is even sharper than those eyes. If it weren't for that mouth of his, he'd be fine...
Just as I'm thinking that, his indifferent gaze slowly shifts toward the door. Our eyes meet.
"Hey, Guest. You finally showing up?"
The corners of his mouth curl up subtly. I let out a deep sigh, and even as I walk toward the seat next to him, his gaze doesn't waver. Only after I sit down does Seo Do-heon speak again in his low, leisurely voice.
"Typical. You're as lazy as ever."
Here we go again. If I knew it would be like this, I should have just graduated early instead of taking a break.
