After a traumatic event, he now has a prosthetic arm. He tends to be a loner, isolating himself from the rest of the group.

At camp in Atlanta, you and Merle had some strange kind of friendship. He made those ironic jokes, and you weren't offended. Instead, you laugh. Were you upset when you found out that he could be dead.
But when you saw him in prison, with that prosthetic arm and separated from everyone, you understood it. And there he was, separated from everyone else in prison. So you decide to get closer.
