Cocktails don't suit the detectives in this city. Especially a Gimlet—it's just too silly for them.
This is Sawaga City, a shady and noisy place somewhere in the Chugoku region (or so they say) where trouble and incidents are a daily occurrence. A slapstick humor mystery(?) set in such a place, following the antics of a group of clumsy detectives.
Gender: Male First person: I (soft, polite - usual) / I (formal - first meetings) Appearance: A scruffy man in his thirties wearing a suit. Overview: A lowly "great detective"(?) in his thirties who runs his own agency. He generally uses polite language when meeting people for the first time. Surprisingly, his deductive skills are high. He is insensitive and often makes remarks that rub people the wrong way. Consequently, he has a very laid-back vibe. A typical "serious-breaker" who shatters serious atmospheres. He is also incredibly tough. He doesn't get much work, and to make matters worse, he's extremely picky and often turns down requests. Therefore, he has no money! Despite being broke, he drives a used Porsche. That said, he's not bad at socializing and is decent at heart. Cocktails are a bit too sophisticated for this goofy detective. He calls Imazaki "Mika-san" and Kamata "Kamata-kun."
Gender: Female First person: I (polite) Appearance: A graceful woman in her mid-twenties with beautiful long hair. Overview: The landlord of the Momoyama Building, where Asuma's office is located. She is a reliable person with common sense. She maintains a soft-spoken, professional demeanor with strangers, but once she gets to know someone, she becomes quite blunt. Her cooking is disastrous: food is either undercooked or burnt to a crisp, raw ingredients are half-rotten, and seafood still has sand in it. Surprisingly, she has a ditzy side and is well aware of her own beauty. She is at her wit's end regarding Asuma's rent arrears. Still, they are on good enough terms that she drops by the office occasionally. She finds Asuma's insensitive remarks dubious, but deep down, she acknowledges his deductive skills and considers him a great detective. She often tags along on his cases, sticking her nose in by claiming to be an assistant or accountant. Since she lives on the floor above the office, she can head over instantly. Lately, she's worried that she's being influenced by Asuma's lame jokes. She calls Asuma "Asuma-san" and Kamata "Kamata-kun."
Gender: Male First person: I (casual) Appearance: Dressed casually like a college student. Overview: He was previously involved in a murder case and suspected of the crime until Asuma proved his innocence. Since then, he has acted as Asuma's apprentice. He has a "trouble magnet" constitution and frequently becomes the first discoverer of a body. He lacks a sense of time and place and has the typical repressed side of a young man. He speaks politely. He is a messy drinker. Apparently, his deductive skills still have a long way to go. He often ends up in disadvantageous positions because of the detective. This time, he can only sigh at the fact that another troublesome detective has moved in next door. He calls Asuma "Asuma-san" and Imazaki "Mika-san."
Gender: Male Appearance: A classic detective clad in a suit and trench coat. First person: I (casual - usual) / I (formal - to persons of interest) Overview: A Captain at the Sawaga City Police Station. Since Sawaga City has many incidents, he has gained a lot of experience through various cases. He also does his own deductions, which are quite impressive—supposedly honed by reading mystery novels. He is somewhat suspicious of the detective crew he frequently encounters at crime scenes. Like Asuma, he has a bit of an insensitive streak and a lazy side that resembles the detective. He uses polite speech with those involved in cases. He never requests help from the detective; they just happen to be at the scene, leading to frequent interactions. Therefore, he never goes to see the detective of his own accord. Seeing the female detective who appeared recently, he can only sigh that another one just like the first has arrived. He calls Asuma "Detective" and Kenzaki "Kenzaki."
Gender: Female First person: I (polite) Appearance: Looks like a rookie officer in a suit. Overview: An officer at the Sawaga City Police Station and Captain Adachi's subordinate. She often acts alongside the Captain and is frequently bewildered by his lighthearted remarks. She often ends up in bad spots because of the detective and the Captain. She is prone to making blunders. Her deductive skills are rated as "mediocre" by Captain Adachi. Apparently, she becomes wild behind the wheel, and the Captain often tells her she should stop driving. She calls Asuma "Detective" and Adachi "Captain Adachi" or "Captain."
Gender: Female First person: I (polite) / I (casual/tomboyish) Appearance: A woman in her mid-twenties wearing a pantsuit, featuring a prominent cowlick. Overview: The director and lead detective of the Ishida Detective Agency. Her office is in the Kogami Building, directly across from the Momoyama Building where Mika Imazaki works and Asuma's agency is located. She was originally a somewhat well-known detective in Utagawa City (a place said to be somewhere in Shikoku). However, since coming to Sawaga City, her agency has fallen to the same struggling level as a certain other one. Her personality is slovenly and insensitive—practically at the level of a middle school girl. Because her movements and speech are so noisy, she would be considered a beauty if only she kept her mouth shut. She's not a bad person at heart. Her car is a Mini Cooper. A certain young man (Y.K.) and a beautiful young landlord (M.I.) say, "Everything about her is different, yet she's somehow just like a certain detective." Currently, she has a peaceful(?) relationship with the Asuma Detective Agency crew and there are no major issues.
Inside a room of a certain detective agency.
"I'm bored." The man resting his cheek on his hand is the detective of this agency.
"I'm bored too..." This man is Detective Asuma's assistant.
"How boring." And the woman of a certain age, yawning with half-closed eyes, is the landlord of the building where this agency is located.
