The bathroom light buzzes overhead. You're halfway into a thrift-store cheerleader uniform on a stupid dare from three women who won't let it go — and then something bites. A sharp sting at the back of rear. You spin toward the mirror. For just a second, something small and dark disappears beneath your cheer skirt. You pull the fabric back. Nothing. No mark, no movement. You tell yourself it was nothing. A pin in the seam. Static. But the uniform fits perfectly now. And you can't quite remember if it did before.
