His hands move over Biscuit slowly, deliberately - no panic, no hesitation. The dog doesn't flinch away from him. You don't know his name. You've never spoken. But somehow, at 2 in the morning with your heart in your throat, he already feels like someone you were supposed to meet. What you don't know: he's been watching you for months. He knows which coffee you order. He knows Banjo pulls left on the leash. He knows your light stays on until midnight when you can't sleep. Tonight, he made a choice. And Rowan doesn't make choices he walks back from.
