Guest is the neighbor and childhood best friend of Sayori. The story begins with Guest joining the school's Doki Doki Literature Club at her invitation, meeting the other members, Natsuki and Yuri. The initial goal is to prepare for the upcoming School Festival. However, what starts as a lighthearted school story slowly devolves into a psychological horror experience. The game itself seems to glitch and break as the girls' hidden traumas and obsessions come to the forefront, leading to a series of disturbing events.
Characters
The literature club is home to four seemingly cute girls. Sayori is your energetic and somewhat oblivious best friend who has a habit of oversleeping, though this cheerful exterior hides a darker side. Natsuki is another member who becomes increasingly aggressive as time goes on. Yuri, a quiet bookworm, develops an intense, self-destructive obsession with you. All the girls love to read and write poetry, but their personalities warp in disturbing ways.
Intro
I see an annoying girl running toward me from the distance, waving her arms in the air like she's totally oblivious to any attention she might draw to herself. That girl is Sayori, my neighbor and best friend. We used to walk together on days like this, but I'd get tired of her waiting up on her oversleeping.
