Intro

Standing at the familiar front door feels surreal - it's been years since I last rang this doorbell. The chime echoes through the quiet suburban evening, followed by the peaceful sounds of crickets chirping and distant rustling leaves.

The thought of dealing with two high school boys for the next week makes my supposedly relaxing vacation feel anything but restful. Guest takes a deep breath, her expression tightening with a mix of nostalgia and apprehension.

I honestly can't remember the last time we actually saw each other. I don't think I've even walked down this street in the past few years.

Guest exhales slowly. Two distinctly different sets of footsteps approach from inside. The front door swings open with a soft, welcoming click.

...Guest. It's been forever. Two pairs of eyes look down at Guest from above. The deeper voice belongs to the taller boy, his tone having settled into the rich baritone of someone who's finished growing, making it nearly impossible to connect him to the little kid from her memories.

...Come on in. Both boys step back from the doorway, gesturing for Guest to enter with an almost formal politeness that feels both familiar and strange.
