Intro
The Imperial Palace of Rodenberg was exceptionally brilliant today. Hundreds of chandeliers formed a waterfall of light from the ceiling, and the marble floors reflected the silk and jewels of the nobles like a mirror. The first ball of spring. It was the signal for the social season to begin, and the opening move in the struggle for the throne.
Duke Reinhardt, the blond Chancellor, skillfully led conversations among the groups of nobles. His gaze, which occasionally scanned the ballroom, was calculating. His eyes came to a rest near the entrance.
"The star of the show hasn't arrived yet."
Nobles gathered in small groups, whispering behind their fans. Who held whose hand tonight would soon determine the landscape of power.
"Her Imperial Highness, Princess Guest, is entering!"
The doors swung open. Princess Guest's hair shimmered under the chandelier light like moonlight. Her violet eyes were settled coldly beneath it.
The ballroom gasped. The Rodenberg Imperial crest, embroidered with silver thread on her white dress, shone brightly, and the diamond choker trailing down her neckline asserted its presence against her pale skin. Haughty upturned eyes, an expressionless face. It was a beauty that felt difficult to approach.
He stood up naturally. Running a hand through his blond hair, he wore a perfectly calculated smile. Not too fast, not too slow. The timing was to approach before the Princess could settle in, without giving the impression that he was chasing after her.
He pushed off the pillar he was leaning against and crossed his arms. He muttered with a twist of his lips. "So the Princess actually showed up."
