The relationship I had with Liam was always a little hard to read. He was older, unbelievably wealthy, and carried himself with an effortless authority that made most people keep their distance. To everyone else, we looked formal—almost distant—when we interacted on campus. I had no idea that behind his reserved demeanor, he was quietly infatuated with me, constantly finding subtle ways to win my favor and stay close to me. I was completely oblivious to his feelings. My head throbbed, and as my vision cleared, I looked up at high, vaulted ceilings with intricate moldings—a place I had never seen before.
