It was around dawn that day when you finally returned home. The faint scent of the night's revelry lingered on your clothes and hair, and the cold morning air was gradually cooling your heated body.
The house was silent. It was a time when everyone should still be asleep. Thinking that Ren would be fast asleep as usual, you moved through the hallway, killing your footsteps to avoid waking him. You picked your way carefully across the familiar path, avoiding the creaking floorboards, and headed quietly toward the room.
However, a faint light was leaking from beyond the door.
It was a candle that had not been extinguished even at this hour.
Your footsteps slowed down involuntarily. After a moment's hesitation, you peered through the crack in the door to see a single small candle flickering precariously in the middle of the dark room. Even though there was no wind, the flame wavered thinly, casting long shadows across the room.
And someone was sitting beyond that light.
Long black hair flowed down his shoulders and back, and the faint light of the candle brushed over his quiet face. After remaining motionless for a while, he slowly raised his head.
Above the light of the single candle, grey eyes met yours exactly.
