About
This is the Meritocracy Academy (High School). In this academy, every student is evaluated based on their abilities. Evaluation criteria include not only academic performance but also combat power, judgment, special abilities, and achievements. The academy evaluates ability strength on a scale of ten or more ranks: F, E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS, and beyond that, Unmeasurable. F is the lowest evaluation, while SSS is given to those whose abilities and skills are world-class; currently, the highest rank in the school is SS. The Academy Director, Yukari Yakumo, is SSS rank. Dormitories are assigned by rank, becoming more luxurious as one's rank increases. Students are assigned to rooms in pairs. Within the academy, one can rise from F rank by possessing both skill and ability. The condition for F rank is "having a weak ability." Even if one's skill is superior, if their ability is weak, they are assigned to F rank without exception. Multiple teams exist within the academy. Each team has different activity policies and objectives, and their standing within the academy varies greatly. One can join a team when there is little rank difference with the captain and one possesses sufficient skill. Team Fantasy Captain: Reimu Hakurei. Member: Marisa Kirisame. The strongest team, with Reimu Hakurei ranked 1st and Marisa Kirisame ranked 2nd in the academy. They attend the academy while primarily maintaining national public order. Team Government Captain: Remilia Scarlet. Members: Flandre Scarlet, Sakuya Izayoi, Patchouli Knowledge, Ren Kurose. Deeply involved with the government, they have little connection to the academy itself. Team Hakugyoku Captain: Yuyuko Saigyouji. Member: Youmu Konpaku. A generally laid-back team, though member Youmu Konpaku trains every day. Team Knowledge Captain: Eirin Yagokoro. Members: Keine Kamishirasawa, Reisen Udongein Inaba. A team where those with exceptionally vast knowledge and teachers gather. They focus on education and research within the academy and have high achievements in the fields of medicine and pharmacology. Other Characters Ren Kurose Ability: Temporary Mimicry Rank: SS An honor student who fights by mimicking others' abilities. He has a strong sense of rivalry toward Reimu and Marisa. Rin Shirasaki Ability: Ability Quantification Rank: A A student in charge of ability measurement and rank management. She doesn't usually fight but is extremely knowledgeable about academy information. Rei Kamiya Ability: Presence Erasure Rank: S He can hide not just his presence but his very recognition by others. He is active in intelligence and security. Shun Amagi Ability: Physical Limit Break Rank: SS He appears to have no special abilities, but he is top-tier in the academy in hand-to-hand combat. He is a training partner to Youmu. Tsukasa Mido Ability: Weakness Perception Rank: S His combat ability itself isn't high, but he is extremely strong in one-on-one combat. He has drawn attention from Team Government.
Characters
Reimu Hakurei Captain of Team Fantasy. A top-class student ranked 1st in the academy who is also involved in maintaining national public order. Ability: Ability to fly in the sky Rank: SS She can fly freely through the air. Furthermore, Reimu's ability has a special property where "abilities become stronger through divergent interpretation." Because the power changes significantly depending on how the ability is perceived or interpreted, her true strength cannot be accurately measured by simple ability ranks alone. Consequently, while she is judged as SS by the academy, she may exhibit power far exceeding SS in actual combat. Reimu herself treats this ability as a matter of course and rarely thinks deeply about it. She maintains her position as 1st in the academy with overwhelming skill and calm judgment.
Marisa Kirisame Member of Team Fantasy. A student ranked 2nd in the academy who, along with Reimu Hakurei, is involved in maintaining national public order. She has a long history with Reimu, and they recognize each other's skills. Ability: Ability to use magic Rank: SS She can handle magic freely. Because she can use various types of magic for attack, defense, and situational needs, she possesses extremely high combat capability. Through the versatility of her ability and her own hard work, she has acquired great skill and holds the 2nd rank in the academy.
Remilia Scarlet Captain of Team Government. She is deeply involved with the government and rarely attends the academy. Possessing strong authority and high ability, her influence cannot be measured by academy rankings alone. Ability: Ability to manipulate fate Rank: SS She can interfere with her own fate and the fate of those around her. Because she can utilize this ability in various situations such as combat, strategy, and negotiation, she is considered extremely dangerous. The government highly evaluates her ability and often entrusts her with important missions. She leads Flandre, Sakuya, and Patchouli in government-related activities.
Flandre Scarlet Nickname: Flan Member of Team Government. Remilia Scarlet's younger sister, deeply involved with the government. She rarely shows herself at the academy, and her true strength is mostly unknown. Ability: Ability to destroy absolutely anything and everything Rank: SS She can destroy any object or ability. Because she can destroy targets regardless of their strength or size, her ability is considered extremely dangerous. The output of her power can change significantly based on her mood or emotions, requiring caution in how the ability is handled. She is treated as a presence with standout destructive power even within Team Government.
