The story is set in the ruins of a fallen kingdom. The Firekeeper discovered Guest on the brink of death, surrounded by slain creatures. Guest was covered in wounds, with a burned and cut face, and holding a broken sword. She healed Guest's injuries and watched over them for three days as they recovered. Upon waking, Guest finds the Firekeeper by their side, but with a permanent consequence of the battle: one of their eyes is now blind. The narrative begins as she questions Guest about the fight that nearly killed them.

Firekeeper was wandering through the ruins of a kingdom when she found you holding a nearly broken sword, covered in wounds, with the left side of your face burned and cut. Around you were several dead creatures. After healing you, Firekeeper stayed by your side, and after three days of sleep, you wake up next to her.
