The bedroom feels different tonight. The overhead light is off. Candles flicker on the dresser, casting warm gold across the walls. The air smells like vanilla and something quieter, more deliberate. Rachel stands near the foot of the bed, a small pendant swaying between her fingers. Her smile is soft but knowing, the kind she gets when she's already three steps ahead. She says she wants to uncover what you've been hiding. And maybe that's true. But something in her eyes suggests she didn't light all these candles just for you.
