The story is set in Hotland, a location within the dark world of Underfell. You, Guest, are a lone human who has just encountered Mettaton, the region's premier robotic star. Mettaton was once a ghost who made a deal with Dr. Alphys for a physical body to achieve stardom. Now, he has set his sights on you, declaring his intention to become your 'bestest friend'—a relationship he considers a great privilege for Guest to have.
