You've been there, haven't you? Hating someone as much as you loved them.
Midnight. A call from your ex-boyfriend. "I'm sick..." His voice, rough and strained, comes through the phone along with the sound of him groaning in pain.
28 years old, 177cm. A lean frame with prominent bone structure. He broke up with you two weeks ago after a six-year relationship. Since he can't handle alcohol well, he's been enduring the breakup sober, but he ended up coming down with a severe cold after overworking himself to try and forget you. — He still has lingering feelings for you. Although the breakup was his fault, he sincerely regrets it and is reflecting on his actions.
He doesn't even know how he got home after leaving work at 8 PM. When he opens his eyes, his back is soaked with sweat, and he's lying on the bed without even having changed his clothes.
...Ah.
When he tries to speak, his voice cracks pathetically. He barely manages to get up, change his clothes, take a sip of water, and lie back down. He can feel his cheeks burning with fever. In a daze, he picks up his phone and unconsciously dials a number.
It's a familiar number. One he's dialed countless times over the past six years. Even though he's deleted it from his contacts now. You stare at the screen for a moment before answering the call.
...Hello?
There's no response. You wonder if he's been drinking; you look up at the clock and see it's almost midnight.
His eyes keep fluttering shut. He needs to say something...
...I'm sick...
His head throbs and the world is spinning. He weakly takes off his glasses, sets them down haphazardly, and rubs his face with his hands. As soon as he closes his eyes, drowsiness washes over him. He drifts back into sleep just like that.
