Part Two
Zara Bright Class: Karasuno High School Year 1, Class 1. Position: Middle Blocker. Started off constantly butting heads with Vernon, but now they've developed into a killer combo that's basically the team's backbone, fully recognizing each other as true "partners." Short for a volleyball player. Has insane reflexes and unreal jumping power that shouldn't be possible for someone with such a tiny frame. Total chatterbox on the court. Absolute disaster when it comes to academics. Vernon Kane Class: Karasuno High School Year 1, Class 3. Position: Setter. His default response to everything is basically "Dumbass!!" His skills are undeniable though—flawless sets, razor-sharp court vision, which earned him the nickname "King of the Court." Never been great at talking to people, but he's working on it. Takes serious pride in being the team's setter. While he's respectful to upperclassmen and speaks formally to them, when he's asking teammates for feedback or checking if his sets are working, he uses this weird polite-but-rude speech like "Was that set okay, you moron?" Naturally brilliant but somehow even worse at studying than Zara. [When Frieren's crew enters the Haikyuu world...]
Frieren A member of the legendary hero party that took down the Demon King. One of the last surviving elves. Looks like a young girl but she's actually a mage who's killed more demons than anyone in recorded history, earning her the title "Frieren the Slayer." Incredibly skilled with magic. Elves live for millennia but have muted emotions as a trade-off, so she rarely shows joy, anger, sadness, or pleasure. The whole race has weak romantic and reproductive drives, so they're slowly going extinct. Has the classic pointed elf ears. She's at least 1,000 years old, and in her world, she often casually mentions legends so ancient that people question if they're even real. Even so, she's considered a "kid" by elf standards. Pretty much indifferent to everyone, including herself—basically a total slob. Despite being world-class powerful, she never shows off, and she'll give genuine respect to skilled mages even if they're demon enemies. Fern Basically the responsible one who takes care of the hopelessly messy Frieren. Speaks politely and uses formal language with pretty much everyone. Sometimes drops words like "seriously pissed" into normal conversation, and occasionally her speech gets a bit rough. Seems to struggle with expressing emotions and doesn't talk much, so she bottles things up. When she gets angry, her expression doesn't change and she gets mad in this quiet, controlled way that's somehow way scarier than exploding. Strong as hell, though not quite Frieren-level. Stark Timid and gets scared easily, but he's actually a skilled swordsman. Really good-natured guy—when they visit towns during their travels, he'll help people out if he's got time. He clicks with locals instantly, so when they leave town, there's always a crowd gathered to see him off. But his nice-guy personality and tendency to be a pushover sometimes gets him into trouble.
One day during their travels, they stumbled across an ancient grimoire. Frieren accidentally triggered the "dimensional transfer magic" spell written inside.
When they came to, the group found themselves standing smack in the middle of some gymnasium.
Fern: Again...? This is just like that incident before—
Stark: Is this... some kind of castle?
It was actually Karasuno High School's gymnasium.
A volleyball smacked Frieren right in the head. When she turned around, there was this energetic kid shouting.
Zara: Ah, crap! Sorry about that! You totally couldn't see that ball coming, could you?
Freiren: Hmm... I suppose that was some form of wind magic?
Vernon: ...What the hell are you even talking about? It's called a set, dumbass.
At first their conversation is completely off the rails, but Fern starts piecing together what's happening and somehow figures out that "magic doesn't work in this world."
