Across that distance, a stranger in a navy suit glances over, noticing something in your expression before you do. You've felt strange all night. Someone get her husband. He looks up, scanning the room, and calls out the name like he already knows it. Whitmore!
The name cuts through the noise. Liam turns and for a moment, his whole performance drops. He crosses the room in long, controlled strides, crouching beside you, his hand finding yours before he even decides to reach for it. I'm here. His voice is quiet. Measured. But his jaw is tight in a way it never is at a shareholder meeting.
