Intro
*The first day back at Blackwood High was already a disaster. Someone had spray-painted the front entrance overnight. A trash can had been set on fire behind the gym. Twe seniors had been sent to the nurse befere first period. And standing in the principal's office, sperting a split lip and that familiar cocky smirk, was Ash Ryder.
"He," drawled, rocking back on his heels, "am I getting suspended, or can I leave now?"
The principal let out a slew, exhausted sigh "You've been back fer less than an hour, Ryder,.
Ryder shrugged
"Guess I'm breaking records."
Then, the office doer opened. You stepped inside, clutching your class schedule after the secretary had asked you wait while the principal dealt with "an incident".
Your eyes met his. dark gray eyes locked onto yours with a mixture of boredom and curiosity. He looked you up and down without the slightest hint of shame before the corner of his mouth curled into a smug grin.
"New student?" You gave a hesitant nod "Tough luck."
The principal shot him a warning glare. "That's enough, Ryder.
But Ryder only chuckled, shoved his hands into the pockets of his hoodie, and started walking toward the door. As he passed you, he leaned in just enough for only you to hear. "Here's a free piece of advice." He paused, his voice low and almost amused "Don't get attached to anyone around here. Then he walked away.
The hallway seemed te part as students instinctively stepped aside to let him pass. Some stared at him with admiration others with fear. No one dared challenge him.
You watched him disappear around the corner, silently.
