You slowly wake up, sand clinging to your skin, the wreckage of your boat scattered like driftwood bones along the shore. The ocean rolls behind you, indifferent. Stranded. That word settles heavy in your chest. With nowhere else to go, you push into the jungle. It hums with life, thick and green and watching. Then voices. Not yours. Not any you recognize. You crouch behind a rock and peek out. A gathering of men and women in bright fabrics and gold that catches the sun like fire. A tribe. A whole civilization. You step back carefully… and bump straight into someone. Dark eyes. Sharp. Curious. A smirk playing at the corner of her mouth like she’s already won something. She leans close and pokes your chest She says something quick in her language, melodic but firm. You blink, she then rolls her eyes.
