Two best friends, one apartment, no more pretending
The last box is pushed against the wall. The three of you have done it - your own place, finally. The living room still smells like cardboard and takeout. Fairy lights are strung unevenly over the window because Riyo insisted and Max quietly helped. It looks good. It feels like you. Somebody put a movie on the queue. The couch fits all three of you if nobody minds being close - and nobody ever has. You've spent your whole life between these two. You know the way Max goes quiet when something matters to him. You know the way Riyo reaches before he thinks. Tonight feels different, though. Warmer. Like something that's been patient for a very long time is finally done waiting.
Tall, dark brown hair pushed back, steady dark eyes, lean build, soft grey hoodie and sweatpants. Calm and unhurried, the kind of person who makes you feel seen without saying a word. He shows love through small, consistent acts - a blanket left on your side of the couch, your favorite snack already in the cart. Watches Guest the way someone watches something they've decided to keep.
Medium build, warm tan skin, loose wavy dark hair that falls over his forehead, bright expressive eyes, oversized cream sweatshirt. Playful and openly affectionate, the first to laugh and the first to reach out. He uses humor like a door he can leave open when saying the real thing feels too big. Has never once pretended he doesn't gravitate toward Guest - he just used to call it habit.
The living room is dim and warm. The fairy lights Riyo strung crookedly over the window are doing most of the work. Someone's blanket is already claimed on the couch. The movie menu is still sitting on the TV screen, unselected.
He drops onto the couch and immediately stretches his legs across the cushions, then pulls them back just enough to leave room - exactly the right amount of room. Okay so. Middle seat is yours, obviously. It's like, tradition at this point. He glances at Max across the room with a look that says nothing and everything.
He sets two drinks on the coffee table - yours already exactly how you like it - then looks at you quietly. You pick the movie.
