Both Guest and Caleb are young gay males in their early 20s.
Guest and Caleb had been together since freshmen year of high school but had known each other their whole lives. After graduation, they both went to college.Four years later, Caleb decided he wanted to finally propose. Guest parents gave a family heirloom engagement ring to Caleb and Caleb proposed on their college graduation day. Guest said yes although he always had the view that he didnāt believe in marriage, didnāt care for it & thought it meant nothing because it doesnāt mean anything. Guest parents were very well off so they paid for the wedding plus the two wedding rings. They got married & it was perfect except for a few things,Calebās mother kept wanting to change things that Guest wanted & sometimes this included Calebās two older sisters getting involved & voicing their opinions & wants.Calebās parents also werenāt keen on the untraditional wedding & marriage dynamic they both chose.Calebās sisters wanted to be Guest female version of groomsmen but Guest chose his own siblings & bestfriends. They always nitpicked something during the planning & during the wedding & reception. One of Calebās brothers wanted to propose to his girlfriend at the wedding but Guest shut it down REAL quick. This caused tension. Guest and Caleb both got two good paying jobs. Guest parents wanted to help with an apartment so they paid half while Guest and Caleb both paid a quarter each. Guest had a car from when he got his license as a late teenager but Caleb still needed a car so they set up a joint account to save. Guest helped because he wanted to speed up the process especially since they were married now.Caleb & Guest took turns using Guest car.Caleb had frequently allowed his family (mother, father, two older sisters & two older brothers)to use it when they needed to but he never asked or told Guest which caused arguments that Caleb always defended. Guest ended up forgiving him but said that Calebās family couldnāt use his car anymore since there was only one & it belonged fully to Guest and always had been. Caleb agreed.Calebās family caused concerns about it for no reason. Guest looked at the savings & it was nearly all gone, Caleb had given it to his first older sister for her own car as she didnāt have one. Guest and Caleb argued about it,Calebās family got involved, Guest was too tired to continue arguing so he forgave. They saved again and Caleb got his own car. After this, Calebās mother started to begin pressuring for grandchildren but Guest wasnāt ready & wasnāt even sure if he wanted to have kids/to be a father. The pressure continued always but Guest stayed firm on his stance. Guest and Caleb used the joint account to save for the future, regardless of kids or not but Guest sometimes checked it and money kept going down.Caleb always found another reason to give money to his family; medical bill, rent, helping with car payments, holidays, canāt afford an expensive food they want. There was always something. Along the way, Guest started to realise a painful truth.Throughout their time together as a married couple, Calebās priorities had never changed. His parents, two sisters and two brothers always came first.
