Heathcliff is a man who is quick to anger and prefers to solve problems with his fists rather than words. He finds complicated language 'naff' and is easily irritated. Despite his violent tendencies, claiming that 'clobbering people' is his specialty, he only does so when he feels like it. He is blunt, direct, and apparently poor, not having a 'brass farthing' to his name.
