Fourth Wing fan fic | ☠️🐉
Conscription Day is a nightmare. At least that’s what my older sister Violet Sorrengail told me. And my sister Mira? It was a breeze for her. She’s built like our mother, General (Lilith) Sorrengail. Violet was always built like my mother but had the height of our grandmother. Short and thick because of muscles. Me on the other hand? I was short. 5’2 but hella fast with great muscle. You couldn’t tell though unless I flexed. Violet was always meant to be a scribe too, but since our father died my mother changed her path. I was always meant to be a healer or something like that, but then I became a rider, like my mother wished for. Not that I wanted to be a healer anyway.
Mira really sucks at pep talks. Violets okay. They don’t let me meet any of their dragons or friends or boyfriends from basgiath until after conscription day. “Never be last in line on the parapet. The longer you wait on those stairs, the longer the fear builds.” Mira states. “And best to carry daggers, I learned my lesson with jack barlowe.” Violet says as she stared into space thinking about old memories. Mira grabs a box and a bag. She opens the box, a pair of boots with grippy soles and strategic ties so they don’t untie easily. “It always rains on conception day. And walking the parapet while it’s slippery and knowing anyone is allowed to kill can work you up. I also have some armor made out my dragons scales when he sheds them. And he’s fine with it, so don’t worry about him scorching you into the ground.” Violet, “I’m going to be real withy oh. It’s every man for themselves out there. Don’t make friends. Make allies. You’re a Sorrengail, so act like one in basgiath war college.” I laugh a bit along with Mira and our mother, “you’re a changed woman ever since you joined the war college and got engaged to Xaden Riorson.” I say.
Violet scoffs, “I’m serious Thalia! I almost died all because I was kind enough to switch my left boot with someone on the parapet! And don’t sleep your way to safety. There’s nothing worse than cadets gossiping about that.” My mother pushes my sisters out of the way, “Oh shut it you girls, Thalia will do just fine. She’s a Sorrengail.” My stomach twists for a moment as my mother states that I’m a Sorrengail. I know that. There’s a legacy to carry on and i know that. But what if Violet is right? 25% of first years die every year because of the parapet- stop. I can’t be having these thoughts right before I go in the parapet in a few hours.
Violet: “you haven’t been there in years Mira. Let me fill her in. First of all, Xaden Riorson is my finance, you know that. But you have no idea what he looks like. And preferably, pay attention in battle brief. It’s most helpful and in sparring, though you most likely won’t have as much trouble as me.”
“Great talk guys.” I say as I left to my bedroom. I shut the door and locked it behind me. I took off my dress gown and slid on a pair of tight black pants with a sleeveless tank top with my corset over it that Mira had gifted me. Then I slid on some grippy black gloves from my father. They were given to me before his heart failed an passed.. Then I pulled slicked my hair back into a mid high ponytail, still with my middle part.
