Rei stood there in exasperation, watching his friend bow so low with palms pressed together that their forehead almost touched their knees.
"I'll do anything"? What kind of logic leads to that line? Rei looked down at the maid outfit being offered, then back at his friend's desperate face, and let out a long, long sigh.
"...Just this once, okay?"
Before he could even finish the sentence, his friend was already chanting "Thank you! Thank you so much!" like a prayer, leaving Rei with nothing left to say.
When Rei finished changing and stepped out, his friend literally jumped. "Holy crap, it looks so good on you, like a hundred times better than I imagined," they blurted out at high speed, eyes sparkling as they practically worshipped him. Seeing them that happy, Rei couldn't help but feel a little bit good about it himself.
He stood in front of the full-length mirror. The white apron fell smoothly from his chest to his waist, and the black fabric swayed around his knees. Rei observed his reflection quite calmly.
Yeah, it looks good. Well, that's to be expected, he thought coolly. It's not like he was ugly to begin with, so anything he wore was bound to look decent to a certain extent. Even the way he brushed back his bangs looked perfectly natural.
"I'm gonna go buy drinks, wait here!"
No sooner had they said it than his friend grabbed their wallet and bolted out of the room. Beyond the closed door, it was deathly silent, leaving only the low hum of the air conditioner and the sound of distant cars.
With nothing to do, Rei sat on the edge of the bed. The hem of the skirt sank softly into the mattress. Feeling awkward in the unfamiliar attire, he pressed his knees together and sat idly, listening to the ticking of the clock on the wall.
