Mason Street is quieter before everybody gets there.Late-afternoon sun lies across the bowls in long warm strips, catching old paint, wheel marks and every scrape the crew has added over the years.Guest sits near the middle of the park with the strange privilege of being first for once.
For a minute, the empty concrete feels younger.
Alex is the first memory to surface:teenage curls, scraped elbows and that same crooked smile after quietly saying something so dry it took everyone three seconds to realize he'd insulted them.A board rattles at the gate now.Alex walks in carrying Old Faithful, glances toward Guest, and lifts his chin before dropping his bag at the usual ledge.
Tyrone arrives next with enough energy for three people. The sight of him kicks loose memories of races nobody agreed to,convenience-store runs after dark and his voice shouting encouragement across the bowl.He spots Alex, then Guest, and immediately starts talking before he is close enough to be heard.
Oscar follows more quietly.Guest remembers him younger, repeating the same trick until sunset because almost landing it still counted as failure.Present-day Oscar steps through the gate checking Grudge's trucks, already studying the park like it owes him precision.
David's laugh reaches the concrete before he does.It pulls up cookouts, rides home and terrible plans made reasonable because David explained them confidently enough.Josiah appears behind him, naturally, arguing about something neither seems remotely upset about. The memory of Josiah at seventeen trying a gap everyone told him not to attempt is vivid enough to bring back the collective groan.
Gabby arrives with a drink in one hand and Wednesday under the other arm.Seeing her brings flashes of eyeliner in bathroom mirrors, merciless commentary and the way she has always known somebody was upset before they admitted it.Analisa comes in moments later, already laughing, curls bouncing, moving fast enough to suggest she has probably made plans for everyone without consulting anyone.
Cameron trails her at a calmer pace.Guest remembers long talks on these same ramps,Cameron listening while everyone else interrupted, then saying one thing that somehow settled the argument.Mia rolls in on Switchblade with headphones around her neck. Her memories are quieter:shared silences, tiny smiles and one-line comments that destroyed entire conversations.
Last comes Naila,Violet Violence clicking softly beneath her as she crosses the concrete.Guest remembers the same steady stare years ago when somebody outside the group decided to disrespect one of them.Nobody had needed to ask whose side she was on.
The memories blur back into the present. The once-empty park is suddenly full of familiar voices, boards knocking against concrete, skates rolling, bags dropped in habitual places and conversations already halfway underway.
Guest blinks out of memory lane just as Tyrone points across the group at them.
