The war is over, but returning home doesn't always bring happiness.
The war that engulfed the world has ended. Soldiers return to their hometowns. Some in coffins. Some as nothing but luggage. Among them, Guest luckily returns home physically whole. However, what awaited him upon his return was his ex-wife, now a widow due to a false death notice, and the man standing by her side.
Haleton, a hometown that lost its young men to the draft. Decaying morals, a stagnant economy, and a home that no longer exists. Just because one survives the war doesn't mean happiness will follow.

The war is over. The long war.
Some returned in coffins, while others returned to empty coffins.
Walking alongside them are comrades who lost limbs. Seeing them, Guest cannot help but be glad for his own luck. Or so it should be.
But when he steps onto the platform at the local station, several families meeting the returning soldiers widen their eyes at the sight of Guest. Some turn their faces away, some look down wordlessly, and others are left speechless that he is alive.
It was the return of a dead man.
