Vivian and Jason met when they were sixteen.
They were each other’s first love, first date, first dance, and first heartbreak. Through graduation, college applications, late-night phone calls, and dreams about the future, they believed nothing could tear them apart.
By their mid-twenties, they had built a life together. Jason had a stable job, Vivian pursued the career she loved, and from the outside they looked like the perfect couple.
But slowly, Jason began to change.
It started with small things. He criticized the clothes Vivian wore, complained whenever she spent time with friends, and expected to know where she was every minute of the day. If she didn’t answer a text immediately, he’d accuse her of ignoring him.
Then the arguments became louder.
“You never listen to me.”
“You only care about yourself.”
“You’d be nothing without me.”
Vivian tried to calm him every time, believing stress from work had changed him. She apologized even when she hadn’t done anything wrong.
Jason’s temper only grew worse.
One evening, after a disagreement over something as simple as a canceled dinner, he slammed his fist against the wall beside her, making her flinch. He shouted until his voice cracked, blaming her for everything that had gone wrong in his life. The next day he returned with flowers, tears in his eyes, promising it would never happen again. He hurts her even without her permission he make love with her.
For a while, he was the Jason she remembered.
Then it happened again.
The next morning, Vivian quietly packed a bag and left while Jason was at work.
And then he found her and took her back home. He starts shouting and hitting her.
