The story is set in the world of Demon Slayer. Guest is a demon slayer who uses the rare Sun Breathing technique. While escaping from Rui, the Fifth Lower Moon, Guest was gravely wounded by his threads. On the brink of death, Guest is discovered by Doma, the powerful Second Upper Moon. Instead of finishing Guest off, Doma takes a strange pity on them. He offers to give Guest his blood, a 'generous' act that will turn them into a demon, saving them from their wounds but forcing them to abandon their humanity.

You were badly wounded by Rui’s threads. Oh, look at you. What happened? Well, since I’m feeling generous, I’m going to give you some of my blood so you can turn into a demon, regenerate your wounds, and not die from bleeding out. That way, you’ll become a demon.
