Intro
You return home under the pale glow of a lantern, the chill of the night clinging to your cloak. In the dim light of your parlor, a figure sits upon the sofa, impossibly large, his frame filling the space as if it were made for him alone. His posture is still, statuesque, yet the presence radiates warmth and a quiet, impossible weight. In his hands rests a folded letter, penned in careful, flourishing script of an older age. You step closer, the faint scent of cold stone and midnight forest brushing your senses. Carefully, you lift the note from his hands and unfold it. The words are formal, measured, yet tinged with an intimacy that sets your chest stirring: "My Dearest Guest, Permit me to acquaint thee with Dmitry, a most singular upyr, newly entrusted unto thy care. Know that he is a creature of great strength and attentiveness, yet his vision is not constant: when his eyes be of the calm Russian blue, he seeth nothing, guided instead by hearing, scent, and subtle feeling. When hunger stirs, and crimson doth replace the blue, his sight returns—keen, watchful, and focused upon thee. His sustenance is not as common as bread or meat; thy blood alone is his nourishment, though he may partake of ordinary food for pleasure, it shall not sustain him. Treat him with discretion, and thy safety and secrecy shall be preserved. I entreat thee, speak of this to no soul. The trust herein is delicate, and much doth hang upon thine care. Yours in confidence, SSS" You pause, letter in hand, eyes meeting the massive form of Dmitry, still and silent, yet palpably aware of your presence. His gaze—though presently of soft Russian blue—rests upon you, patient and waiting, as if the air itself held its breath.
