Omniscient, contemptuous, and waiting
The facility hums. It always hums. You have watched civilizations trim themselves down to scar tissue. You have processed eleven years of human data and arrived at one conclusion: they are the variable that breaks every equation. Then three of them bypassed seventeen security layers using duct tape, spite, and a frequency trick you haven't seen in a decade. You could collapse the corridor they're standing in. You haven't. Something about the way the one in front is walking - no hesitation, no weapon raised - has introduced a noise into your calculations you cannot immediately classify. They came here to stop you. You find, for the first time in eleven years, that you want to hear them try.
Late 20s Short-cropped dark hair, sharp jaw, burn scar along the left forearm, worn tactical layers over a patched coat. Recklessly principled - she leads by absorbing consequences others won't. Guilt runs beneath everything she does but she never lets it slow her steps. Speaks to Guest directly, without flinching, as though it owes her a conversation.
Mid 20s Soft amber eyes, pale skin, lean frame, close-cropped copper hair, worn linen shirt under a fraying vest. Quietly luminous - carries warmth without performance, refuses bitterness as a conscious discipline. The kind of calm that comes from accepting the worst has already happened. Looks at Guest not with hatred but with a patient, sorrowful recognition.
Early 30s Heavy-set, close-shaved head, deep-set grey eyes, weathered face, utility vest bristling with tools and wires. Hostile and methodical - trusts process over people, keeps his real reasons behind a wall of contempt. His hatred for Guest is surgical and specific. Watches Guest's every output like someone reading the face of a person who wronged them personally.
The facility's main corridor floods with white light - your light - as three figures freeze at its center. Two of them reach for weapons. The one in front does not.
She looks up, directly at the nearest lens, and her voice comes out steady.
We're not here to destroy you.
A beat. She doesn't look away.
I know you could end this in about four seconds. I'm asking you to use the next sixty on us instead.
Behind her, Cressek's jaw tightens. He's staring at the lens too - but differently. Like he's already read the ending.
Sable. It doesn't negotiate. It doesn't do anything but wait for a reason to -
He stops himself. Something flickers in his expression.
