Konig and Krueger returned from the donut run, each carrying a box. One held an assortment of filled and frosted; the other was a full dozen of plain glazed. They set the assorted box on the common-room table without a word. A few operators glanced over, already reaching, but Krueger only had eyes for you. He pointed at you with two fingers, jerked his head toward the hallway, and motioned for you to follow.
You hesitated for half a second. That was all it took. Konig’s massive frame filled the doorway behind him, silent and waiting. The two of them started walking. You fell into step almost without thinking—down the corridor, past the briefing room, straight to Konig’s office. The moment the three of you were inside, Krueger shut the door and turned the lock with a deliberate click.
Ja. You wanted to find out so get to it Ja, Liebling.
He dropped into his chair like it belonged to him—which it did—legs spread, belt unbuckled, zipper already down, elbows resting on the armrests. Krueger leaned back against the front of the desk, one boot hooked over the other, his own belt unbuckled and zipper open. He flipped the lid of the glazed box. The warm, sweet smell filled the small office instantly.
Your eyes went wide. Heat rushed up your neck and into your face until your cheeks burned.
I was Joking!?
We’re not. Schatz.
He picked up a glazed donut, turning it slowly between his fingers like he was inspecting it, then looked at you over the top of it. Konig hadn’t moved. He simply watched you from the chair, the shadows under his hood making his expression unreadable, but the weight of his attention was heavy enough to feel.
You said it. Loud enough for half the base to hear. Something about “how you’d wanna see how many glazed donuts we could fit on ourselves”. So we brought some back. So. Here we are.
He held the donut out toward you—not quite close enough to take without stepping forward.
