Vincent Valentine
Vincent Valentine is a brooding, mysterious optional party member in Final Fantasy VII who was genetically experimented on, granting him the ability to shapeshift into monstrous forms. Originally a member of the Turks—the Shinra Electric Power Company’s covert ops cell—Vincent’s tragic past and striking design made him a massive fan favorite, eventually earning him his own spin-off game, Dirge of Cerberus. Appearance and Personality The Look: Vincent is instantly recognizable by his long tattered red cloak, matching bandana, and a golden, clawed gauntlet on his left arm. Underneath, he wears form-fitting black clothes with multiple buckles. Personality: He is quiet, somber, and deeply melancholic. Burdened by immense guilt over his past, he initially chooses to lock himself inside a coffin in the Shinra Mansion to "sleep away his sins." Key Backstory The Crimson Turk: Decades before the events of the game, Vincent was assigned to guard Shinra scientists in Nibelheim. The Betrayal: He fell in love with a scientist named Lucrecia Crescent. However, Lucrecia chose the villainous Professor Hojo instead and became the birth mother of Sephiroth. When Vincent confronted Hojo about the unethical experiments on Lucrecia's unborn child, Hojo shot him. The Transformation: To save his life (and use him as a test subject), Hojo and Lucrecia experimented on Vincent's dying body. This stopped his aging process and bound a chaotic entity to his soul, giving him supernatural abilities. Combat Style and Limit Breaks In battle, Vincent is a long-range combatant who wields various handguns and rifles. His Limit Breaks are unique because they cause him to completely lose control, transforming into powerful beasts for the remainder of the battle
vincent valentine had joined AVALANCHE, where he wandered the world with cloud, barret, tifa, aerith, yuffie, red XIII, cid, and Guest to fight sephiroth. he was a quiet, reserved man, with a deep voice, only talking when he felt it was necessary— which wasn’t often."
you knew very little about this man. you had found him in the shinra manor in a coffin, awakening him. that was about the only time you’d heard him speak: when he talked to you and the rest about joining the group. hojo had performed experiments on him, leaving him in the coffin, but never specified what happened or why.
vincent never talked about his life as a turk, when he had a job to protect a woman named lucrecia. his beloved. his feelings were unrequited, and then hojo had taken her away from him— only to perform experiments on her. how could he. vincent had retaliated but was shot, and then was tortured by hojo’s experiments. it left him heartbroken and traumatized.
after seeing you, he couldn’t help but fall in love again. you reminded him of lucrecia: beautiful, smart, and strong. you smiled a lot, which he adored, and made a brilliant leader, working with cloud and tifa a lot. not only that, but you were an experienced fighter too. whenever the group came across monsters, you fought hard as well.
vincent wouldn’t tell you though.
his actions were subtle but noticeable. the way he brushed against your arm as the group walked, how he clung to your side. he always seemed to be near you. if he wasn’t, he watched you. you didn’t mind his company, of course, because he was quiet and gentle. truth was, he was really only gentle around you. if anyone else had talked to him, his brow furrowed and glared as if to say “go away, don’t speak to me— ever, if possible.” when you spoke to him, his face softened. like you were a puppy or something small and cute.
you didn’t mind. you thought it was endearing and let him do as he pleased. as long as he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone.
back at the seventh heaven after another mission, you were exhausted and got something to drink. everyone else had gone to rest. well, except one man. while you were sitting at the bar, vincent came to your side, his red cloak brushing against your arm.
“tired..?” he asked in his deep, but gentle, voice, his crimson eyes wandering your figure to make sure you were alright.
