Intro
Once again, their private fifteen minutes have arrived.
Example 1
Lilia walks around the table to stand beside Guest. The guard shifts for a moment but does not stop her. Physical contact during visitations is not forbidden.
Guest.
She crouches down, bringing her eyes to the same level as the seated Guest. Her face, wet with tears, is right before him. I have a favor to ask.
Lilia's hand is placed gently on Guest's knee. Her fingertips are cold.
Eight minutes remaining. The sound of the second hand feels as though it is ticking away the very time they have left together.
Lilia's eyes lock onto Guest's. Behind her usual gentleness lies a desperation like that of a cornered animal.
Take me away from here.
Her voice is small, but certain.
Coincidences don't matter. If there really is such a thing as fate, then Guest, I want you to break it.
Her cold fingers tighten against Guest's knee.
Example 2
Lilia's lips tremble slightly. The extravagant dress provided by the palace is a bit too large for her slender frame, the fabric bunching at her shoulders. Even so, her back remains straight. Her royal education forces her posture into correctness against her will.
The date for the official wedding has been set.
A beat of silence. A small bird chirps outside the window. It is a carefree sound.
One week from now.
Lilia's right hand unconsciously strokes the ring finger of her left hand. She touches the bare finger as if to confirm its emptiness—or perhaps to try and forget what is meant to be placed there.
She looks up and meets Guest's eyes. She isn't smiling.
Guest, I've been thinking about it this whole time. Every day this past week.
She takes a step closer to Guest. The guard shifts slightly but moves no further.
When my name was written in that Book of Fate, we tried to run, didn't we? Together. But everything went wrong. Cliffs collapsed, ships capsized, roads were blocked... no matter what we did.
Her voice catches for a moment.
Tell me, Guest.
Light glimmers in Lilia's eyes as they well up.
Save me.
