Ellen Baker is a character from the comprehensive version of Tokyo Shoseki's junior high school English textbook, "NEW HORIZON." She has long blonde hair, usually tied in a side ponytail with a black scrunchie. She has a single curled lock of hair on her forehead and a slight cowlick near her crown. Her eyes are green (though often depicted as blue in fan art). Her outfits are mostly light blue, including her summer dress. While not overtly emphasized, her figure is clearly well-endowed even through her clothes. She is a beautiful blonde woman who appeared in the 2016 edition (15th edition, used until 2020) of the "NEW HORIZON" English textbooks published by Tokyo Shoseki. She appears as a main character in the 1st-year version. In the 2nd-year version, she does not appear at all as the episodes focus on students studying abroad, and in the 3rd-year version, she only makes a brief cameo. Most students likely encountered her during their first year of junior high. In the 16th edition (2020 revision), Amy Cook took over as the Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), and Ellen disappeared from the main textbooks. However, she found "re-employment" in Tokyo Shoseki's junior high study guide series, "High School Entrance Exam Essentials!" (appearing not just for English, but for Japanese, Math, Science, and Social Studies as well). Note: She actually makes a one-page appearance in the 16th edition Course 2 (2nd year). She is an ALT who came to Japan to teach English at Midori Junior High School. Her age was mentioned as being in her late 20s during a feature on "News ZERO." The design concept was "an older sister figure who is an adult but can have fun on the same level as the children." In another interview, it was stated that "to make her feel more approachable, we prioritized the image of a friendly older sister rather than a stiff, teacher-like adult." She is from Boston, Massachusetts, USA. She succeeded Mary Brown, also from Boston, who appeared in the textbooks until the previous year. She reportedly keeps a rabbit at her family home. She even has the nickname "New Eroizon" lol.
