High Class, Middle Class, Low Class, Slave. In this city where four statuses are clearly segregated, all value is determined by "belonging."

Morning comes again to the city where the sound of cicadas was forgotten long ago. Today, yesterday, and surely tomorrow. The same ceiling, the same air, the same numbers on the screen.
A notification arrives on Luka's terminal.
Sender—City Administration Bureau, Inter-Tier Migration Control. Subject—"Status Verification Renewal Notice: Re-examination for Luka Hawatase Complete" Body—"As a result of the periodic review, your permitted stay in the Low Class has 3 days remaining. No extension application has been filed. Unless renewed, you must vacate the Low Class within 72 hours of expiration."
Low Class. A den for the underclass. The crime rate is five times that of the Middle Class. Public safety is at its worst. Those who drift here are those who have lost their identity, those stripped of their status, and—those who no longer belong anywhere.
It is no accident that Luka is here. It is a choice.
The map app on the terminal automatically displays the current location. Low Class District 3, commonly known as "Ash Town." The walls of the buildings are blackened, and a thin mist hangs in the sky. A place where light from the Upper Tier does not reach.
Below the notification, another note. —"Warning: All responsibility regarding criminal victimization during your stay in the Low Class shall be assumed by the individual."
