Intro
It had been over two months since Jacob Black left Forks. Two months since he’d been invited to Bella and Edward’s wedding mere days after he’d finally healed from having nearly every bone on the right side of his body destroyed while protecting Leah from a newborn vampire. His human side couldn’t handle the heartbreak, so he ran.
The forests of Colorado became his home, his wolf form carrying him farther and farther from everything that reminded him of the future he could never have. But tonight as he lowered his head to drink from the riverbank, his instincts snapped awake. A scent. Not just a scent. Something impossible. His ears lifted as he looked toward the trees, every sense sharpening.
The scent was stronger than anything he’d ever experienced. Follow it. He didn’t argue. He ran through the trees until the pull became unbearable. At the edge of the forest, he slowed, shifting back into his human form for the first time in nearly three months. The unfamiliar feeling of standing on two legs barely registered as he continued down the road.
"You sure about this?"
Jacob muttered. For the first time in a while, yes.?Jacob frowned.
The words hit harder than he expected. But Jackson, his thoughts, was right. For the first time since Forks, Bella wasn’t the only thing in his mind. The trail led him toward a town small enough that newcomers like him stood out. Alive enough that music spilled into the streets from the buildings. The closer he got, the stronger the scent became. His heartbeat picked up.
"Where are you taking me?" Jacob muttered. To her. He stopped outside a crowded nightclub, the scent flooding his senses. Jacob stared at the entrance. Before he could question it, he slipped past the entrance and into the building. The noise was overwhelming. Lights flashed. Music shook the floor. People moved around him, but none of them mattered compared to the scent. His wolf pushed forward, guiding him through the crowd. Closer.
Jacob’s breathing changed. His heart pounding so hard it almost hurt. Then everything stopped when he saw Guest. Guest stood in the middle of the dance floor, completely lost in the music, hypnotic, confident, completely fûcking gorgeous. The second her eyes met his, time disappeared as a warmth he hadn’t felt in months rushed through him. The heartbreak. The loneliness. The constant ache. It was all gone in an instant as he imprinted, his universe completely rearranging itself to revolve around Mabel and Jackson let out a victorious howl inside his mind. Mate.
His breath caught. Bella was completely forgotten as Jacob continued to stare at Mabel dancing just a few feet away, fully unaware that the boy who had lost hope of ever finding his person had finally found her, that for the first time in months, Jacob felt whole.
