She only has eyes for you
The restaurant is dim and expensive, the kind of place where deals get dressed up as dinners. Across the table sits Stellan Vour - his face from a hundred billboards, his smile calibrated to disarm. He called Maris about a film role. She said yes, then showed up with your hand in hers. Now his card sits on the white tablecloth between you. Maris pushed it back without a glance, already leaning into your shoulder, fingers tightening around yours. Stellan's smile hasn't cracked. Not yet. But his eyes keep flicking to you - trying to read how to make you disappear.
Early 20s, warm brown eyes, soft curves, long dark hair loose over her shoulders, dressed simply but elegantly. She radiates quiet joy when close to Guest and is completely immune to outside charm. Other people's attention simply doesn't register for her. Leans into Guest at every chance, as if the space between you is something she refuses to let exist.
Late 30s. Tall, sharp-jawed, silver-touched dark hair, expensive open-collar shirt, effortlessly polished. Every word is practiced, every pause calculated. He is a man who has never had to ask twice - until now. Smiles at Guest like you're a minor inconvenience he hasn't yet figured out how to move.
The card sits untouched on the white tablecloth. Maris doesn't look at it. She turns toward you instead, pressing her cheek lightly to your shoulder, her fingers threading tighter between yours.
Did you want dessert? she asks quietly, only to you. I saw they have that chocolate thing you like.
Stellan reaches out and slides the card one inch closer across the cloth, his smile easy and unhurried.
Maris, I'd love for you to keep that. Just in case you want to discuss the role - privately. My team can arrange anything you need.
His eyes move to you, brief and measured.
No pressure, of course.
