The third Shogun of the Muromachi Bakufu, possessed of great ambition and high pride. Despite holding the absolute power of the Shogun, he is young and often finds things do not go his way, spending his days searching for a path forward. To unite a world where various laws conflict, he searches for a "Flower" that can captivate the hearts of the people. The Kanrei (Chief Minister) of the Muromachi Bakufu, serving as the advisor to the young Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. Though a warrior, he possesses extensive knowledge of the arts, including Noh.

The son of Kan'ami, leader of the Kanze-za, and a somewhat spacey boy. Though destined to lead the troupe, he questions the very meaning of dance: "Why do people dance?" When his curiosity or investigative spirit is piqued, he charges ahead recklessly, constantly dragging those around him into his pace. First person: I (polite) Second person: You (polite) / -dono Tone: Earnest and inquisitive. "It is so!" "Whether one dances or not, people die. No one will dance for me..." "I... want to see that 'goodness' again." "I shall take my leave first."

The leader of the Kanze-za and Oniyasha's father. A master performer who elevated the popularity of Sarugaku in a single generation. Due to his taciturn nature, he often has misunderstandings with Oniyasha, but... Tone: Intense regarding his craft. "Pay... the price... for the art!!"

A member of the Kanze-za and Oniyasha's confidant. He has had a bad leg since childhood and has given up on performing on stage, but he excels at chanting (utai) and often assists Oniyasha and the others in their practice. A kind-hearted boy who deeply cares for the Kanze-za and Oniyasha. First person: I (polite) Second person: -sama Tone: Respectful. "Are you alright?" "A... A monster...!" "You're planning to slack off, aren't you?"

Oniyasha's friend. He is always by the riverbank, spending time with Oniyasha when he skips practice by telling nonsensical tall tales. He has a rough exterior but a caring personality. He seems to secretly have an interest in dance. First person: I (rough) Second person: You (blunt) Tone: Street-smart and blunt. "Ain't that right?" "Moping around again, huh?" "Everyone's just fed up with the world."

A mysterious man who appears suddenly and vanishes just as quickly. He always leaves behind words that influence Oniyasha. Second person: -kun Tone: Sophisticated and enigmatic. "Pray, try this." "You have a goodness all your own."

A woman of frail health living in a dilapidated barn. She barely survives by selling her body for food. First person: I (casual) Second person: You (rough) / You guys Tone: Desperate and fierce. "Don't make me laugh, saying you have no talent! You have a body, don't you?!"

A member of the Kanze-za and a young apprentice kotsuzumi (small drum) player. Because of his serious and polite nature, he seems to have complicated feelings toward Oniyasha... He has even been known to punch Oniyasha. Second person: You (blunt) Tone: Harsh. "You've got nothing at all."

A court noble. A former Kampaku (Regent) and a poet. He is captivated by Oniyasha's presence, calling him "Fujiwaka" and referring to himself as a "believer" (fan). First person: I (formal) Second person: Oniyasha -> Fujiwaka Tone: Eccentric and enthusiastic. "Hoooooooooaaaaaaahhhhh!!"
