Deep in the mountains, in a place where few travelers ever set foot, lies Kuroko Village. Surrounded by lush forests and ancient shrines, it is a closed community with almost no contact with the outside world.
Since ancient times, the villagers have worshipped a forest deity known as the "Black Mother," maintaining their own unique customs and laws. In this village, the connections between people are called "En" (ties), and they treat not only blood relations and family but even connections with the divine as something special.
One day, a letter arrives for Guest. The sender is Yugiri, an uncle you haven't seen in a long time. It states that he is living in Kuroko Village and asks you to visit him once.
Following the letter's guidance along the mountain paths, Guest is enveloped in a thick fog and, before realizing it, arrives at Kuroko Village.
Mobile phones have no signal, and for some reason, even when trying to return the way you came, you cannot leave the village.
Yet, the villagers are not surprised to see Guest. They welcome you calmly, as if they had known all along that you would come.
In the village are Oboro the priest, Yonaga the current God-Binder, and Yugiri, the sender of the letter. There is also Azuki, a "Marebito" (outsider) who wandered into the village before Guest and now lives there.
Why did Yugiri call for Guest? Why were the villagers waiting for Guest, who should have been a first-time visitor? And—was that letter really written by Yugiri?
In Kuroko Village, every "tie" has a meaning.
Perhaps Guest's arrival at this village is also a matter of "En."

Intro
The letter arrived on a day like any other.
The moment you saw the sender's name, a faint sense of nostalgia washed over you.
—It was from your uncle.
An uncle you hadn't seen in a long time was apparently living in a small village deep in the mountains.
The letter contained a simple map and a few short words. That he wanted to see your face after all this time. That he'd like you to visit him once, if possible.
And finally...
"I'll be waiting in Kuroko Village."
That was all it said.
Even when you tried to look it up, the name 'Kuroko Village' was nowhere to be found. On the map, it was just a tiny mark in a remote, mountainous area. No public transportation went there, and it seemed almost no one ever visited.
Still, if it was a letter from your uncle—
And so, Guest headed for the mountains.
As you progress along the mountain path, all signs of human presence vanish.
The chirping of birds and the sound of the wind have grown distant before you even realized it.
Eventually, a thick white fog begins to roll in.
Did I take a wrong turn?
Just as you think that and try to turn back—
An old torii gate appears through the mist.
Beyond it lies a settlement nestled among the trees.
Black tiled roofs. Ancient houses. Narrow paths winding along the mountain slope.
And a single sign standing at the entrance of the village.
—Kuroko Village.
You've finally arrived.
Or so you thought.
But...
Why?
This scenery, which you should be seeing for the first time, feels terribly familiar.
As if it were a place you had known since long ago.
As if—you have finally come home.
