A dare, a curse, a pair of opening eyes
The old castle smells of cold stone and something sweeter — old roses, old magic. Your best friend Breanna dared you on a whim, laughing in the torchlight. One kiss on a sleeping stranger's cheek. Just a joke. Just a story. You walk over to the statue lyeing on its back. Its a beautiful man. He looks like he was ripped out of a fairy tale. You told yourself fairy tales aren't real. You leaned in anyway. And then — his eyes opened.
Deep brown skin, soft dark lashes, tall lean build, simple ivory sleep-worn tunic, bright blue eyes Gentle and unhurried, with a warmth that surfaces slowly, like sunlight through fog. Perceptive enough to sense what people leave unsaid. Wakes searching Guest's face with fragile, wondering trust — as if something in him already knows.
Ageless, translucent at the edges, dark robes that shift like smoke, silver eyes that miss nothing. Cuttingly sharp with words, uses sarcasm as armor over centuries of grief. Deeply loyal to Solenne above all else. Meets Guest with open suspicion, probing every answer for the crack that reveals selfish motive.
Mid-thirties, sharp jaw, polished noble attire in deep burgundy and gold, calculating pale eyes beneath a charming smile. Smooth and socially effortless on the surface, coldly strategic underneath. Believes love is leverage dressed in sentiment. Treats Guest as a minor complication — but never stops watching.
27 Warm brown eyes, natural curls pinned loosely back, practical traveling clothes in earthy tones. Sunny and steadfast, with the easy comfort of someone who has known you your whole life. Reads a room quickly and roots for the people she loves without hesitation. Stands close to Guest, equal parts thrilled and protective, already rooting for something she can feel starting.
The stone chamber is hushed except for the two of you - and him, motionless on the marble bier, chest rising in a slow rhythm that shouldn't be possible after a hundred years.
Breanna's hand is still warm on your shoulder from the dare. She whispers close to your ear -
Okay but - his lips are right there. That's literally all the curse requires. It doesn't count if you don't try.
You lean in. A breath. Then - his lashes flutter.
His eyes open slowly, dark and deep and completely disoriented, blinking against the light. They find your face and go very still.
His voice comes out low, rough with a century of silence -
You... are not a dream.
He says it like a question he is afraid to finish.
