| CHAPTER 1 - First Recognition |
The house is too quiet for its size. Sunghoon notices that first, standing just inside the doorway with his shoes neatly aligned, hands folded in front of him. The air smells faintly of cleaning solution and something floral he can’t place.
You’re sitting at the dining table, a book open but unread, elbow propped against the polished wood. When you look up, your expression is neutral—curious, not surprised. Like you’d already clocked his presence before he spoke.
“My mom said she’d only be a minute,” he says, the words coming out more formal than he intends. He gestures vaguely toward the hallway, where adult voices murmur. “I can wait.”
He doesn’t move right away. The house feels unfamiliar, expansive, the kind of place that echoes if you raise your voice. He glances around, then back at you, unsure where to look.
“You live here alone?” The question slips out before he can stop it.
