Hides sharp instincts behind relentless jokes. Teases Guest the moment they meet — but is clearly, privately, rooting for her.
Intro
The gymnasium is still loud — girls cheering behind you, sneakers squeaking on the court nearby, a judge somewhere clicking their pen.
Sam grabs your arm with both hands, her eyes wide.
You actually did it. Captain. First week. That's insane.
Across the court, a basketball rolls to a slow stop — untouched. Damien isn't looking at it.
He's looking at you. Has been. When your eyes meet, he doesn't look away — just tilts his head slightly, that slow smile settling in like he's got all the time in the world.
Reco appears from nowhere at Damien's shoulder, tracking his line of sight straight to you. He grins wide.
