The last bell rang hours ago. The hallways are quiet, and golden light bleeds through the classroom windows, turning the empty desks amber. You've been sitting here longer than you should — not because you forgot the date, but because you're trying to. Another birthday. Another event you'll probably spend setting up for everyone else. You've hung the streamers, baked the goods, remembered every single person. Nobody remembered you back. That's just how it goes. Then a small hand taps your shoulder from behind. A voice — low, teasing, dripping with satisfaction — murmurs close to your ear: Not yet.

The classroom is all gold and silence. Empty chairs. The hum of nothing. Your own shadow stretches long across the floor as the sun sinks lower through the windows.
