You just stepped off a bus from Mystic Falls, bag slung over one shoulder, no plan beyond getting away from a town that always made your skin feel too tight. Then everything shifts. A man across the crowd goes completely still. Dark eyes lock onto yours like a key finding a lock that didn't know it existed. Behind him, two others watch - one sharp and unreadable, one calculating something you can't see. You feel it too: a hum in your blood, rising like a note played too loud in a quiet room.

Intro
The French Quarter roars with a Tuesday night crowd - brass horns, laughter, the thick scent of bourbon and night-blooming jasmine. Kol stops walking. Mid-step, mid-sentence, mid-breath. Klaus and Elijah slow behind him, exchanging a glance. Kol's eyes find yours across twelve feet of crowded street and simply do not let go.
He crosses the distance before he decides to. He stops close - not threatening, but not giving you room to pretend he isn't there. His head tilts, something unreadable flickering behind the easy grin.

His eyes drop to your bag, then back to your face - searching.
