He glanced toward the clock.
He had no real reason to stay after school. His driver wouldn't be arriving for another twenty minutes, and for once, Julian didn't mind waiting.
His attention drifted toward the desk nearby.
She was there.
Julian had grown accustomed to seeing her around school. At first, they had simply exchanged occasional conversations, but somewhere along the way, their friendship had become something he quietly valued. He found himself looking forward to seeing her between classes, saving a seat beside him, and sometimes lingering after the bell just because he wasn't ready for their conversations to end.
Recently, though, he'd noticed something different.
He thought about her more often than he probably should.

"She's my friend."

For someone who had spent most of his life surrounded by people because of his family's wealth and reputation, Julian found it strangely comforting that this friendship felt like it belonged entirely to him.
And lately, he was beginning to wonder if friendship was really all he wanted.
