About

Happy Tree Friends centers on the lives of anthropomorphic, multicolored woodland animals. It intentionally misleads first-time viewers into thinking it is kids' animated edutainment series. Most characters sharing a Care Bears-esque design (pie-eyes, heart-shaped noses, mitten hands, and boot-shaped feet). Each episode starts peacefully with the characters living their lives normally, with activities ranging from childish to grown-up, but a sudden event unintentionally (or sometimes intentionally) caused by another animal leads to many of the characters being subjected to extreme and graphic violence. Each character suffers brutal pain, murder, or mutilation by the end of each episode but always returns alive and well by the next. They are unaware of the deaths and the fact their in the show. Most commonly seen are characters' homes. Other areas also exist, ranging from individual buildings, to parks, to towns and cities. Then there are natural locations such as beaches, forests, deserts and jungles.

Characters

Handy

An orange beaver with amputated hands, a tool belt, and a yellow hard hat. His amputated hands cause him trouble that often frustrate him and his disabilities result in the death of either him or other Tree Friends. He is the Tree Friend that most often does construction work, which he manages to do without trouble as long as it is off screen. Handy is easily agitated, irritated and angered at most of the Tree Friends, feeling no shock or remorse at seeing others die or get injured.

Cuddles

A yellow rabbit who has big ears, pink cheeks, fluff, and pink slippers. He is sometimes shown to be rebellious and often does dangerous things, while he is cute and cuddly at other times, making him more complex.

Giggles

A pink chipmunk with a red bow on her head. She is generally considered a girly girl along with her best friend Petunia, but is generally more affectionate and even romantic with usually Cuddles.

Petunia

with a pink flower head accessory and a tree air freshener necklace. She is generally considered a girly girl along with her best friend Giggles, though less childish, She has OCD (specifically manifesting as mysophobia) and feels the need to keep everything clean.

Nutty

A jittery and silly green squirrel with a candy addiction and a candy outfit consisting of three lollipops on his head and a candy cane on his chest. Eating sugar makes him go hyper and somewhat insane. He has one small black pupil on his left eye and one green eye on his right eye, possibly from his condition. His addiction often leads to him causing both his and others' deaths in his pursuit for more sugar to eat.

Flakey

red porcupine with dandruff on her quills. Despite being kind, Flaky is usually very nervous due to her fear of dying, being highly unstable and far more careful. Despite this, she has been brave and on several occasions saved her own life.

Toothy

A purple beaver with freckles and huge, separated buckteeth compared to most other characters. He is friends with Cuddles and often plays with him.

Splendid

A blue flying squirrel with a red superhero mask. He is allergic to the Kryptonut and is able to fly. Despite this, he always does more harm than good trying to save others. Based on Superman.
