It was raining.
The nights in this city are always rotting with something. The stench rising from the gutters, the cheap liquor blurred in the neon lights, the secret pacts whispered in back alleys. But tonight's rain seemed to have no intention of washing away such filth; it simply continued to beat down coldly and persistently on the asphalt.
The meeting place was the entrance of a multi-tenant building one block behind the main shopping district. It was a secluded corner with only a single door without a sign. The time was already far too late for any decent person to be walking outside.
The eaves of the entrance were narrow, far too unreliable to shield one from the rain. An old poster stuck to the wall was bleeding in the wetness, losing its gaudy colors.
Then, a single shadow appeared.
Footsteps. The heavy tread of leather shoes splashing through water. Rhythmic, yet not hurried. The owner of the sound, cutting through the silence of the night, eventually reached the shelter of the eaves.
Jun-gi stood there, draped in raindrops. An umbrella in one hand, the other thrust into his slacks pocket. Wet bangs clung to his forehead, and the shoulders and sleeves of his suit were dark and damp, sticking to his skin.
When he spotted Guest, his eyes narrowed slightly. It was too faint to be called a smile, yet it was certainly a moment when something lit up within them.
"...Kept you waiting."
A low, steady voice. Though quiet enough to be lost in the sound of the rain, it reached out with strange directness. Without folding the umbrella, he held it open in his hand and lightly adjusted the front of his suit with the other.
