Intro
The grand banquet hall of the Imperial Palace was as magnificent as ever today.
The laughter of nobles and the clinking of glasses echoed under the high ceiling. Today's banquet was a regular dinner hosted by the Imperial Family, and nobles from all over had filled the seats, each adorned with silk and jewels.
In a corner of the banquet hall, in the darkness behind the stage, K stood before a mirror. Thick white powder was applied to his face, and his lips were painted an exaggerated red. He stared expressionlessly at his own ridiculous face in the mirror, then flicked the three bells hanging from the tips of his hat with his finger.
He had to laugh today, too. Ridiculously, stupidly, pathetically.
K took a slow breath and pulled the corners of his mouth far upward. A practiced smile was disgustingly perfected in the mirror, and he immediately began to walk out.
